RSC Hilary Mantel Special Events


RSC are holding two special events with the award-winning writer Hilary Mantel over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd March at the Swan Theatre.
Hilary will be talking about writing and adapting novels to the stage at the first event, while at the second she'll give a keynote speech during a day focused on exploring Cromwell's court.
Writer and adaptor talk 
Hilary Mantel and Mike Poulton – who has adapted Hilary's novels to plays – will discuss the process of bringing the detailed historical fiction to the stage at the RSC.

Cromwell's Court 
How religion, politics and personal influence shaped a King's reign, 
and a Queen's downfall. 
Hear talks from Tudor experts about the context of the novels and the influence of Cromwell on Henry VIII's court. Speakers include:
  • Diarmaid MacCulloch, Professor of the History of the Church at the University of Oxford and regular BBC broadcaster on the period.
  • David Loades Honorary Member of the University of Oxford and author of more than 30 books on the period.
  • Nicola Shulman literary critic for the Sunday Telegraph and the TLS.
Hilary Mantel will give the keynote speech. The day will end with a discussion and Q+A session with all of the day's speakers.
