Highlights include Troilus and Cressida with music by Evelyn Glennie, Michael Boyd returns to direct Tamburlaine, and Kathryn Hunter takes on the role of Timon of Athens.
Today (Tuesday 23 January) the RSC announced their winter season which is packed with dark comedy and satire, including:
- Troilus and Cressida directed by Gregory Doran, with music by Evelyn Glennie – dedicated to the memory of the RSC’s co-founder, John Barton
- A Christmas Carol back by popular demand, adapted from Dickens’ tale by David Edgar and directed by Rachel Kavanaugh
- Tamburlaine by Christopher Marlowe – directed by Michael Boyd, who returns to the RSC for the first time since stepping down as Artistic Director
- Tartuffe a new version of Molière’s classic, by Anil Gupta and Richard Pinto, directed by Iqbal Khan and set in Birmingham’s Pakistani Muslim community
- Timon of Athens Kathryn Hunter takes the title role, directed by Simon Godwin
- First Encounters with Shakespeare: The Comedy of Errors tours schools and theatres nationwide and plays in the Swan Theatre, directed by Alex Thorpe
They also announced the new ‘First Time Fridays’, which offers people who have never been to the RSC before the chance to buy £10 tickets for any Friday show. Plus, a new series of Shakespeare Podcasts in collaboration with The Telegraph starting in March.
We will also welcome In My Shoes, a new national Arts Council Collection Touring Exhibition, with work by artists such as Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas and Grayson Perry, which you can visit in the PACCAR Room from October.
Winter 2018 season begins in August, with priority booking available from February.
