In a gallery above the Swan Theatre this beautiful exhibition of photographs is a perfect way to start an evening at the theatre or to fill a few minutes in an interval. The photographs capture actors in the minutes before a play begins; some tense, some bored others pensive. It is a poignant glimpse into the floating world of theatre, full of the most famous of our stage actors caught half-costumed, hair in rollers, smoking or applying make-up or simply perched in some awkward corner or corridor, waiting for the glamour to begin;
'A sense of falling, like an arrow-shower
Sent out of sight, somewhere becoming rain' Philip Larkin

Big names backstage for new exhibition
An exhibition called The Half: Photographs of Actors Preparing for the Stage, shows many big-name performers and the result is a fascinating exhibition of black and white and colour photographs taken over 30 years by Simon Annand."
